franklin canyon is west of laurel canyon just above beverly hills. along the chernoff trail, you'll enjoy the serenity of the lake (where we were told the andy griffith show was filmed back in the yesteryears). this trail surrounds the lake. if u park at the lot at the entrance of franklin canyon, walk along the same paved road that led you to the lot going southbound as it forks to the right. you'll be along the right side of the lake. u'll quickly approach Heavenly Pond which is just next to the half-way point of the lake. pretty. convenient outhouse in case u really must go (which is a good idea if u go on to do the hastain trail). loop back around the lake as it ends or at the edge of the lake the narrow ranch trail begins. whilst lined with poison oak, it's a beautiful trail filled with trees heading southbound. It takes you uphill and has great canyon views, but it spits you out back onto the paved road below. (continue on the paved road going south to do the hastain trail.) If not, then head back on the same trail or north on the paved road. both lead you back to the lake. |
