commentary:
(same as griffith park trail in the beginning) trailhead starts on vermont about 0.3 mi from the griffith park gate entrance. start at bottom of the hill and go up the dirt trail SE direction (which takes you around the mtn. curve with views of the tennis courts). along that first canyon, take the narrow trail which leads off the main wide dirt trail (pictured above) going northbound. stay on that trail until it stops at the foot of the mini climb which will be on your right. it's no rock-climb by any means, but it does serve some exhilaration and challenge (particularly for beginners). once at the top of the climb u're reunited with the main griffith park trail. the trail narrows with further uphill treks. it takes you back westward towards a patch of trees with picnic benches and a drinking fountain to reward your hike. u can take the narrow trail up the little hill adjacent to the drinking fountain which takes you to dante's peak or twist around the hill on the right side along the dirt road to the same destination (northbound to dante's peak). you can also just stay on the dirt road westbound by the drinking fountain towards griffith's observatory. once you get to the trail fork, take the narrow dirtroad (SW bound) just right of the wide trail towards the observatory to begin your descent down the hill. this trail takes you through a few twists and turns and eventually spits you out on vermont about half a block north of the trailhead. don't forget to stretch (unless u're in great shape or a masochist for aching muscles).

Trailhead starts just across the street from the most northern end of the parking lot.
